Skull Centric Behaviour (2011 to 2020)

More than any other bone structure in the human body, a skull is automatically recognisable as human. This makes it a powerful symbol of human mortality.

Skull Centric Behaviour is about the fierce symbolic dominance the human skull holds over the rest of the animal kingdom. We are human centric. When we relate to animals we often try to identify human traits, superimposing them over the distinct style of another animal form. We choose our favourite animals based on the traits we most like about ourselves and do a similar thing in reverse.

The word ‘skull’ is automatically human. It conjures such specific origins that any other skull must be differentiated by the prefix of an alternate species. Through our individual sockets, we perceive a world that completely and totally centres on us.
